Being a contact lens wearer can be quite a hassle. You have to buy, maintain and replace your contacts plus have annual eye tests. If you’re looking for an alternative you may find that either a 30-day contact lens is the solution or you may find that corrective eye surgery is the only way forward. Although both methods are great, they also have some disadvantages. So make sure you understand the pros and cons of each before you make a decision.

Advantages of 30-day Continuous Wear Contact Lenses

Quick – You will notice an improvement in your vision the moment you place the contacts in. If you find them at all uncomfortable it’s probably because you’ve been given the wrong prescription. All you have to do to rectify the problem is to go back to your optician.

Low Cost – These lenses do not cost a fortune and there’s no need to take out a loan to finance them. When you have worn them for 30 days all you have to do is dispose of them and buy new ones. This means you won’t have to have so much in the way of cleaning products. However it’s still recommended that you keep a bottle of cleaner to hand.

New Technology – The silicone hydrogel which is used to make these lenses are much more efficient at allowing oxygen into the eye. Your eyes will stay much healthier and irritation-free.

If a recent eye examination shows you need to change your prescription this is a very easy process.

Disadvantages of 30-day Continuous Wear Contact Lenses

Even though technology has come a long way, you may find that sleeping with your contact lenses in is a bit uncomfortable. If this is the case they may not be the best choice. You also have an increased chance of getting an infection if lenses are worn while you sleep.

Because your eyes can change over the years it’s strongly advisable to keep going for annual eye examinations to make sure your prescription is still valid.

Advantages of LASIK Eye Surgery

Success rates are now very high for LASIK operations. Technology, training and experience have improved a great deal over the years. In most cases people completely restore their vision to 20/20 or even better. The results are also long-lasting.

The results you get from LASIK are pretty much immediate and a lot of patients can drive home after the operation.

Disadvantages of LASIK eye surgery

Costs are significant with surgery. It costs generally around $2,000 an eye so you may have to take out a loan. Talk to your surgeon to see if there are any financing options available.

Like any other surgery, LASIK is not guaranteed and mistakes can, and sometimes do, happen. Some patients don’t see improvements or suffer side effects such as the appearance of spots, glare and dry eyes.

Also some people aren’t eligible for surgery because the health of their eyes aren’t up to scratch or they are generally not in good health.

Although surgery is long lasting, you may still need to wear prescription glasses in years to come as presbyopia becomes an issue.

Also make sure you attend regular eye examinations.

The secret to finding and buying discount contact lenses is that you should look for a professional outlet. Your contact lens outlet should be able to supply you with your discount contact lenses because they have a superior business model.

You definitely don’t want a contact lens supplier that takes shortcuts through the system. The internet is full of questionable contact lens stores. You could place an order with an inferior company that sends you the wrong prescription, the wrong contact lens brand or the wrong contact lenses altogether.

When you need a new prescription, you need it immediately. You don’t have time or money to waste on sham companies that are willing to take risks with your health and your eyes. You should only deal with companies that want to protect your eyesight and your health. Hygiene and packaging is of the utmost importance.

A good indication of the quality of a contacts lens dealer is the time that it has been in business. Has it been around for a number of years or is it a recent startup? Years of experience show that a company knows what it is doing. It also indicates that the dealer has a solid base of customers who keep coming back.

Such a dealer will have an established reputation in the eye care and medical optical business. It will have solid relationships with the best and most well-known contact lens manufacturers. The top manufacturers are willing to supply them with quality discount contact lenses. It is low risk and high volume business to them and they respond with low prices and quick delivery. Make sure that you only purchase contact lenses from a supplier have the infrastructure and experience necessary to back up their promises.

You should not even consider buying no-name discount contacts, look for reputable products from top companies in America and the world. These will be companies like Bausch & Lomb, CIBA Vision, Johnson & Johnson, Wesley-Jessen, and a couple of others.

Look for discount contacts lens suppliers that guarantee purchase satisfaction, prompt shipping, safe shipping, low prices, and quality after sale service. Your eyes are worth the time it takes to do the research. Find an internet contact lens supplier that can provide all of these benefits.

The secret to finding and buying discount contact lenses is that you should look for a professional outlet. When you need a new prescription, you need it immediately.

Refractive surgery (LASIK) often produces amazing results, however, as with any medical procedure, there are risks involved. If you’re considering LASIK, it’s important that you are aware of the limitations and possible complications that may arise.

According to FDA reports, nearly 100% of LASIK patients have good results and no complications, but you need to be aware that there are things that can and do go wrong. Some problems include double or triple vision, light distortion so severe that patients can’t drive at night, or eyes so dry that they have to wear goggles when going outside.

Some patients experience infections, inflammation of the eye, redness, blurriness or eye irritation. In many cases, LASIK eye surgery can eliminate your need for corrective lenses, but that’s not always the result. Sometimes, LASIK will drastically reduce your dependence on corrective lenses, but you may still require corrective lenses for some activities, such as reading. It’s best to think of LASIK as reducing your dependency upon corrective lenses – not necessarily as eliminating your need for them.

Diffuse lamellar keratitis is a post operative LASIK risk that happens when a foreign substance, such as a hair or speck of dirt gets trapped behind the corneal flap. If this happens to you, you may experience pain, light sensitivity, blurred vision, along with the sensation that something is trapped in your eye. Rubbing will only intensify the problem and may lead to further complications, such as infection or tearing or dislodging of the corneal flap. Diffuse lamellar keratitis usually occurs as the result of the patient not exercising proper precautions during the healing period after LASIK eye surgery.

One of the most common complications of LASIK eye surgery is a slipped flap. The flap that was created during the LASIK procedure may become detached from the rest of the cornea. Most doctors recommend that you go home and sleep for several hours after completing the LASIK procedure in order to allow the cornea to start its healing process. That’s good advice and can substantially reduce your chances of experiencing a slipped flap.

Even without LASIK eye surgery, it’s expected that everyone’s eyes will change slightly with the passage of time – it’s just a natural part of life. After LASIK, your eyes will still follow their natural course of changing with time, so LASIK shouldn’t necessarily be considered a permanent solution. For most people however, their vision will not change enough to require any additional treatments, especially when the original procedure was done to correct for poor distant vision.

The information provided here is not intended to scare you away from LASIK eye surgery, since it has been a blessing to a great many people. For many who have chosen LASIK, it has meant that they are no longer dependent on corrective lenses in order to have good vision. It’s highly recommended that you talk with your doctor about LASIK and how any possible risks or side effects relate to your own personal circumstances.

If you don’t take care of your contact lenses, they can do you more harm than good. Contact lenses are a very popular alternative to corrective vision, and they can really help your eyes if you take care of them. There are ways that you can get the most from your contacts, and ensure that they remain comfortable for as long as you wear them. Below, you will find some tips on how to get the best from your contacts.

To ensure that your contacts remain healthy, you should always replace them as required by the manufacturer or type of contacts you are using. Most types of contacts need to be replaced every 2 weeks, and replaced with a fresh pair. If you are using daily disposable lenses, you should always throw them away before you go to sleep, then wake up to a fresh new pair in the morning.

Another common mistake people make, that can easily damage or affect contacts, is swapping them with other people. You should never swap your contacts, even with a family member or friend. No matter how well you know the person, you should never switch contacts with them. Swapping contacts can damage your eyes, in the terms of protein and contact shape/power.

Anytime your eyes start to bother you, you should take your contacts out and allow your eyes time to rest. Normally, if your contacts are causing irritation, allowing your eyes ample time to rest will correct the problem. If it happens to be more than just tired eyes or irritation, you should leave your contacts out until you can schedule an appointment with your optician and get them checked.

Before you handle your contacts, or put them in your eyes, you should always wash your hands with soap and water, and dry them thoroughly. If you handle your contacts with dirty hands, you could easily get dirt or debris on your lenses and transfer that dirt that you put on the lens into your eye – which could result in an eye infection. If your hands aren’t clean, you can also scratch or tear your contact lens, which can do damage to your eyes, possibly even scratch the cornea.

When you handle your solution, you should avoid letting the tip of the bottle touch any surface. You should also make sure that you read the label on the solution bottles, as there are some types of saline solution that are intended to be used with certain contacts. Some types of solution aren’t meant to be put in your eyes, while others can be used as eye drops. To be on the safe side, you should always read the label and know what you can and can’t do with your solution.

When you put your contacts in, you should try and put them in using the same order each and every time. This way, you’ll know which contact goes in first and you won’t get them mixed up. Before you put them in, you should always inspect them each and every time to make sure they aren’t torn or damaged. If you notice a tear or anything wrong with your lenses, you should immediately discard them and switch to a fresh pair.

To get the most from your contacts and ensure that they remain comfortable, you should always take care of them and use a bit of common sense. If you experience any problems with your contacts, you should take them out and let your eyes rest for a while. Contacts are great to have, although you’ll need to rest your eyes every so often. This way, your eyes will get the rest and oxygen they need, and you can go back to wearing your contacts after a few hours.

If you are planning on getting contact lenses, you will need to have a special contact lens eye exam by your optometrist. This exam will include a special examination of your eyes, getting a contact fitting, and also getting the prescription for your contacts. A contact lens eye exam is going to take a bit longer than a regular eye exam, so if you plan on getting contacts you will want to let your optometrist know at the time you schedule your exam.

The first part of your eye exam is going to include your eyes being examined to check on the overall health of your eyes. More than likely your optometrist will also ask you the reason that you want to get contacts and if you have any eye problems that you are aware of. Much of your examination is going to be based on information that you provide your eye doctor.

There will also be a variety of tests that you will undergo during your eye exam. These tests will let your eye doctor know more about the vision and health of your eyes. After the exam is complete and your doctor has the needed information, then he or she will provide you with the needed prescription for your contacts. If you do not have a prescription, more than likely you will not be able to find a place that will sell you your contacts.

Your eyes will need to be fitted for contact lenses and this will include measuring the curvature of your eye as well as other aspects of your eyes that will affect the fit of the lenses. If you tend to have dry eyes, then you may need a contact prescription that will not increase the dry eye problem. Your cornea will also have to be checked as well because you cannot wear contact lenses if you have a problem with your cornea that may cause a problem with the contacts.

As a general rule, your eye doctor will provide you with trial contacts to start out with. This will help you check them to see how they fit and feel, although you may have to try a few different pairs before you find the best fit for your eyes. The best pair will help provide you with excellent vision, they will fit comfortably, and they will not damage your cornea.

The contact lenses should always be checked before you wear them to make sure they are not scratched, torn, or otherwise damaged. Your eye doctor will show you how you should check out your contacts before you place them in your eyes. Wearing damaged contact lenses can actually damage your eyes, so this is a very important step. After you have worn your test pair of contacts, your eye doctor will check out your eyes to make sure that the contacts are working well with your eyes and meeting your vision needs.

When you are having your fitting exam, the optometrist will also let you know which contact brands are best for you and which ones you should avoid. You will also be trying out several types of contact solution as well to see which ones will work the best with your eyes. Once you have your contacts and they fit and feel perfect, you will also need to go to several follow up appointments as well. These appointments are made in order to make sure that your contacts are working well for you and that your eyes are adjusting to them. Be sure that you always attend these appointments to make sure that your eyes are healthy and your contacts are working as they should.

Lasik Eye surgery is a surgical process that is aimed at reducing a person’s dependency on glasses or contact lenses. The article provides basic information on LASIK eye surgery.

LASIK (Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis) surgery permanently changes the shape of the cornea, the clear covering of the front of the eye, using an excimer laser. A flap in the cornea is cut using an special knife called microkeratome. A hinge is left at one end of this flap. The flap is folded back revealing the stroma, the middlesection of the cornea. Pulses from a computer-controlled laser vaporize a portion of the stroma and the flap is replaced. This is just one of the techniques of Lasik.

Lasik Eye Surgery: Is this the right time?
Examine your eyes with your eye doctor to start with. You must be in good general health and should be over 18 years of age. You should not have any eye diseases of concern like cataracts or glaucoma. Laser vision correction can treat a very broad range of nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism.

Does the Lasik eye surgery hurt? Is it painful?
The surgery may be a bit uncomfortable for a few patients. One good way to learn more about how it might feel is to talk to someone who has had the procedure, such as a friend or relative, or a staff member at the doctor’s office. Most of the times, its just the fear of the unknown. Anesthetic drops are used to numb the eye just before surgery begins and you may be given a mild sedative. After your procedure, your eye may feel a foreign body sensation or irritation for a few hours, but most patients are quite comfortable after taking a short nap. You will be given drops for your eyes to counteract the potential dryness you may experience for several days following the surgery.

Recovery period after Lasik
Most Lasik patients usually see quite well the day following their procedure and may be able to resume most of their normal daily activities, but patients with higher prescriptions may recover more slowly. Although the speed of visual recovery depends on personal healing patterns, most patients notice dramatic visual results within the first few days following their procedure.

What are the risks from Lasik surgery?
There are very few risks with the laser vision correction procedure. However, the chances of having a vision reducing complication have been documented in a number of clinical studies to be minimal. Do not forget that millions of people have had excellent results from laser vision correction.

If we are wearing contact lens, the chances are that the contacts will get dry for only a few hours after we have worn it. Besides that, at night, when we have finish wearing it, we need to clean it and store it in the right way to maintain the lasting of our contact lens.

In this mini guide, I will show a few simple but efficient steps on how to clean your contact lens the right way. But why do we have to clean our contact lens. Based on the Tri-Action formula formulated by Bausch and Lomb, when we clean our lens, it will removed proteins that accumulate when we wear it during the day. Besides that, if we clean it thoroughly, it will effectively kill micro-organisms that are bacteria and fungi on our lenses. Furthermore, with a good cleaning, it will remove dirt and debris that deposit on our lenses so that it will provide a clearer vision. So, with a proper cleaning method and good cleaning solution, our lenses are clean and comfortable giving us that Fresh Contact Lens feeling everyday.

So, here are the steps that need to be followed on a daily basis.

Step one is rubbing. We need to place around three drops of a good contact lens solution, for example the Bausch and Lomb Renu Multiplus Multi Purpose Solution, on each side of the lens surface and gently rub for ten seconds on each side. Make sure to rub it thoroughly.

Step two is rinsing. After we have thoroughly rubbing each side, we need to rinse each side of the lens for five seconds again with a good solution, and try to use a good multi purpose solution.

Step three is soaking. After a good rubbing and rinsing, place the cleaned contact lens in the lens case and fill it with the solution. Remember to soak it for at least four hours. Remember to always use fresh solution – never reused solution that has been used because of all the bacteria and fungi.

Remember to always follow your eye care professionals instructions because they will provide a careful instruction based on your individual tear chemistry and lens wearing schedule. They will also recommend additional products or procedures to be used. They will also recommend the step without the rubbing method, which is the first step above. If this happens, to clean, disinfect and remove protein daily without the rubbing step, complete step two and step three only as described above. All of the above steps are shown when cleaning the soft contact lenses including the Silicone Hydrogel.

Remember to use a good cleaning solution because they can kill 99.99% of all the bacteria and fungi. And also, make sure to get a really good contact lens accessories, especially the contact lens solution so that our contact lens will last longer when using a good contact lens solution. if not the lifetime of our contact lens will become shorter and shorter.

As more and more people choose to seek alternatives to pricey and inconvenient eyeglasses and contact lenses, the popularity of Lasik eye surgery continues to grow exponentially. The Lasik procedure was first performed in the United States in 1991; today over one million people in the U.S. have undergone the procedure. For patients looking to embark on Lasik, finding a reputable surgery center is paramount to achieving success.

For those living in the New York area, reputable Lasik eye surgery in New York is relatively easy to find. In such a populated area – and one that is a medical hub of the east coast – Lasik has been made available to the masses.

Lasik eye surgery works to repair the way in which our eyes refract light. In a normally functioning eye, the lens of the eye works to refract – or bend – light to the retina. The retina – a group of cells in the lining in the back of the eye then takes that light and converts it to messages that can be understood by the optic nerve of the brain. The optic nerve receives these messages as visual images. When one link in the chain is affected the end result changes – much like the childhood game of Whisper Down The Lane.

In the case of refractive disorders such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism, light is not refracted properly to the retina. In turn the message that the retina sends to the optic nerve in the brain is received as a blurry image. Lasik surgery corrects the way in which we refract light through the use of laser technology.

During a Lasik procedure the eye is numbed, held open with a speculum, and immobilized with a corneal suction ring. After immobilization, the surgeon cuts a small incision in the top layer of the cornea making a flap. The flap is then folded back and the surgeon is able to access the underlayer of the cornea known as the stroma.

A low-powered laser is used to resurface the stroma so that light is refracted correctly going forward. After the laser procedure, the flap is replaced over the eye and allowed to heal naturally. Such a surgical procedure – while completed quickly – requires enormous precision and skill by experienced surgeons. Those undergoing Lasik eye surgery in New York often have little problem finding reputable and experienced surgical centers.

Ultimately, finding Lasik eye surgery in New York requires some research from the prospective patient. Those living in the New York area can often get a referral from their regular eye doctor or primary physician. But often the best way to find reputable Lasik eye centers is through a recommendation by someone who has had the procedure performed.

Talk to people who you know to have had the procedure and ask questions regarding their particular experience – including comfort level, respect received by the staff, the way in which surgeons addressed their questions and concerns, billing procedures, and aftercare.

Make sure to conduct your own research when it comes to finding Lasik eye surgery in New York; visit surgical centers in which you are interested and interview the surgeons to make sure that you are compatible with them on a personal and professional level. Ultimately – no matter where you have your procedure performed – you should feel as if you have been educated thoroughly regarding the procedure and have had all your questions answered.

Contact lenses are a great thing to have. That is because those who are able to wear them are not under the restrictions that eyeglasses put upon them. However, in recent years the entire world has changed for the contact lens wearer and that is the fact that new types of contacts have come out. Amongst these new types of contacts are those that you can wear for an extended period of time. They are monthly wear and continuous wear.

Both monthly and continuous wear contacts are called extended wear contacts. This is because they are able to be worn longer than your traditional contact lens. Traditional lenses come in daily wear, weekly wear, and bi-weekly wear. This means they have to be disposed of daily, weekly, or every two weeks. What you wear is up to you and what your tolerance is.

What are extended wear?

With the development of extended wear contacts, people don’t have to change their contact lenses daily, weekly, or every two weeks. They can wear them for approximately 30 days before they have to throw them away. It may seem that they are more expensive, but it all reality you do save money.

However, not everyone can wear extended wear contacts and, if they are able to, they may find that one kind of extended wear does better for them than another. For example, some may want a monthly contact lens and another may want a continuous contact lens. But what’s the difference?

Monthly vs. continuous

The difference between monthly contacts and continues wear contacts is not really all that different. The only difference is that monthly contacts need to be taken out every night. This is more or less the same as your traditional contact lens. You take them out and let them soak overnight so that they’re clean the next morning.

Continuous wear contacts allow you to wear your contact lenses for 30 days straight without having to take them out. This means that you can sleep in them without having to worry about anything. After the 30 days is over, you simply throw them away. There is no having to clean and soak them every night like with monthly contact lenses.

However, there are some individuals unable to wear continuous wear. Some people have eyes that are more sensitive than others. Some individuals may also have issues with calcium buildup on the contact lens. This can cause issues such as Giant Papillary Conjunctivitis. This is when bacteria become trapped and an infection occurs. Those susceptible to this may not be able to wear continuous wear. They will be better off with the monthly contact that requires them to take the lenses out every night.

Which is best?

Which is best for you depends on what your eyes want. There are risks associated with all contact lenses. Infection is the main issue, so most people decide to try out the different types of contacts before committing. This is why your optometrist may find giving you trials before actually ordering is a good idea. That gives you the opportunity to figure out what is comfortable for you.

Besides, your eyes are very important. Without them, functioning would be very difficult. That’s why it is very important for you to be able to find the contact lens that is right for you. Talk to your eye doctor about monthly contacts and continuous wear contacts. Let them tell you what risks exist for you and what your options may be for your particular situation. You might be quite pleased with the results that you receive.

For anyone considering Lasik eye surgery, the importance of finding a reputable and experienced Lasik eye surgery center is absolutely crucial. Just as you would never embark on a surgical procedure with doctors that you didn’t know or trust, you should never entrust the health of your eyesight to random surgeons you find in the yellow pages of the phone book.

In order to get what you need from Lasik surgery – in a safe and effective way – you must find a surgical center that extends quality, dependability, experience, and professionalism to their patients – at all times.

Lasik eye surgery – for the uninitiated – is a refractive procedure that works to correct the way in which our eyes refract light. When light is captured by the lens of our eye – the portion of the eye located directly behind the iris, or colored part of the eye – the lens refracts, or bends, the light to be then captured by the retina, a group of cells in the lining in the back of the eye.

The retina then takes those light signals and converts them into messages that can be understood by the optic nerve in our brain. When there are refractive difficulties in our eyes – through nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism – the light is not refracted to the retina properly and the brain receives a message of a blurry image.

During the Lasik procedure, a laser is used to resurface the cornea – the thin, transparent covering that blankets the iris and lens of the eye – thus clearing the way for refractive clarity. Lasik is generally a painless procedure that can be performed in mere minutes. Skilled surgeons who work within a Lasik eye surgery center and perform this procedure on a daily basis are in the best position to assess your candidacy for the procedure and what will work best for your eyesight.

Begin your search for a Lasik eye surgery center by looking in your immediate area; logistical convenience should be your first consideration but it shouldn’t be your only one. Speak to people who have had the procedure performed in your area in order to get a sense for the more popular and reputable surgery centers.

If you are interested in a particular Lasik eye surgery center, then speak to patients who have had the procedure performed in that center and who are willing to share their experience. Finally, visit the centers in which you are interested to assess their organization, patient care including pre-operative and post-operative care, cleanliness, professionalism of the staff, and financial options available to you.

Once you have decided on a Lasik eye surgery center it is important to then research the surgeons who work within the center and who will be assigned to your case. With the assistance of the Internet it does not take very long to investigate the education, experience, and reputation of any surgeon in which you are interested. Meet with the surgeon yourself to get a feel for his/her standard of care and what systems they put into place to ensure your comfort and successful outcome.
